New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged the Opposition to participate in the discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, describing it as a crucial piece of legislation for the future of students and youth across the country.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Rijiju said members from both the treasury and Opposition benches had come well-prepared for the debate, with several Opposition MPs also submitting amendments to the Bill. However, he accused the Congress and some of its allies of deliberately preventing a discussion on the legislation despite its importance.
He said the Opposition had earlier demanded a debate, arguing that the issue concerned examinations and the welfare of students. Now that the government had introduced the Bill and allocated time for discussion, he said, they were continuing to disrupt the proceedings instead of participating in the debate.
Appealing directly to the Congress party, Rijiju urged its members to take part in the discussion rather than obstruct it. He also claimed that such actions were damaging the party’s public image and called on the entire Opposition to contribute constructively to the debate on the Bill, which, according to him, is aimed at strengthening the examination system and safeguarding the interests of students and young people.
